Hooray, more filler because there wasn’t enough botches this week in current wrestling. Hopefully next week they will get their shit together and more people fuck up.

Music…

Level 2 Red Alert! by Patrick Collins, Andy Blythe, Marten Joustra and Allister Brimble (Toy Story)

Frolic by Luciano Michelini.

Notes…

WWF had some issues to deal with in 1994, mostly that pesky Steroid Trial that Vince was able to beat against all the odds, which resulted in a lot of odd booking decisions and abrupt changes such as:

-Jeff Jarrett vs. Macho Man being a thing then suddenly not being a thing.

-When Mr. Backlund snapped originally, he stared at his hands as if possessed, with the original plan being Papa Shango had control over him. I’m glad they changed that one, Mr. Backlund’s bitter rants were amazing.

-Mabel claimed that Doink was originally supposed to face Jeff Jarrett at 1994 SummerSlam but it got switched the week before that he would be facing Jarrett. Why? Why not.

-The Quebecers feuding with Men On A Mission for the tag titles which ended with them trading the titles on a European House Show tour and then…The Headshrinkers winning them on Raw.

-”Apparently the IRS/Bigelow team was going to get the tag titles from the Headshrinkers at Summerslam before Vince called an audible and switched them to Shawn & Diesel a couple of days before the PPV. Never got the timing of that one. It would have helped the Corporation a hell of a lot more than Shawn & Diesel, who were only getting the belts so they could split up.” Source: some guy on a forum.

-The rumoured end to Undertaker vs. Undertaker was supposed to involve both men merging together, with the lights going off and only one Undertaker standing. The Owen vs. Bret cage match over-ran so they dropped it for time reasons.

Despite this, the build and blow-off of Wrestlemania X involved three of WWF’s best ever storylines/matches with Bret vs. Owen, Razor vs. HBK and Savage vs. Crush. A lighthouse in a fog of Undertaker vs. Undertaker.

“The rumoured end to Undertaker vs. Undertaker was supposed to involve both men merging together”

Wow, I knew that Undertaker and Brian Lee were good friends, but that’s something else.

  • ballz

yokozuna squishing a jobber or enhancer is money to me. love it

    >WWE abused the trash can.
    >USA hates it.
    >WWE says sorry and won’t do it again… for a while.

I’m pretty sure the difference being that in 1994 the WWF was very much in family-friendly territory (I mean, A LOT of the other stuff that was done later would not have been allowed as well).

  • motorheadbanger

The Bob Backlund stuff was great. “Eating marijuana?” The Kevin Nash flub and HBK’s response nearly killed me. Only HBK could get away with that. The Yoko banzai drop was just nasty. One of the worst I’d ever seen. Another great video! Keep up the outstanding work!

If that incident right there isn’t proof that Vince and Shawn had something “special” going on I don’t know what is. You can practically hear the power that Shawn has over Vince in his voice. Amazing.

    • spicollidriver

to be fair, HBK actually kinda makes this work in a kayfabe way, mentioning where Backlund got it from.

-The Quebecers feuding with Men On A Mission for the tag titles which ended with them trading the titles on a European House Show tour and then…The Headshrinkers winning them on Raw.

    That sounds awful

    • spicollidriver

imo the Quebecers/Headshrinkers match was alright though.

  • Armando Payne

One thing which I really dig is that I was born on the same day as that Bret Hart/ 1 2 3 Kid Matchup.

    • spicollidriver

thanks for making us feel old.

      • Armando Payne

You wanna feel old? Watch the music video to ‘She’s A Beauty’ by ‘The Tubes’ the little kid in the video’s already changed gender and died.

  • Leo Grant

I don’t think the captions for Backlund celebrating his 16th anniversary was necessary….I’ve watched Botchamania 23 enough to know what he’s saying.

    • spicollidriver

also, doesn’t it actually make sense (and it was just the delivery that was “off”)? like: he had his 16th anniversary last year and is even aiming at staying the champ until his 18th one.

  • Jack Squat

So, I would like to know if there was a time when alot of sponsors dropped out of Monday Raw time slot? And Vince allowed it to happen to compete with WCW? And did ad revenue even go back up with other sponsors that didn’t care about political correctness during the height of raw?

  • JoPo

Geez! Watching the first half of this video was disheartening as 95% of the people that were shown are now dead!

  • SL8Rok

was that lawler segment real or was that just a work?

  • flamingtoilet

Question about the endings- do you put them together yourself or do people send them to you fully formed?

Cause I’ve got an idea but I’m shit at video editing.

  • Crab_Botherer

HBK talking to Vince re: Kevin Nash bit was gold man. I could just picture Vince gurning away at the mess. Fucking LOL.
