I decided to watch Impact Wrestling because it’s sadly expected of me. Here’s some random thoughts…

  • Kurt Angle starts the show revealing he was the one who attacked James Storm. As he bragged about giving Storm a concussion, the models/plants in the crowd shouted WOOOO!! and YEAHH!!! at random points as none of them seemed to know what was happening.
  • When James Storm is angry his voice reminds me of Brother Love’s.
  • Recap of Sting giving Morgan/Crimson the shot at the Tag Team Titles last week: ”Where’s the competition? Where’s the Motor City Machine Guns?” I had to ask people via twitter where in fact they were. Chris Sabin is injured and hilariously. Alex Shelley is simply not being booked. Wow.
  • Morgan/Crimson are the TNA tag champs. Imagine if Snitsky/Heidenreich won the belts in WWE and you’re half-way there. They won the belts last week in their first shot at the belts despite sort-of feuding with each other. They squashed Mexican America this week. So what tag teams are there in TNA? I had a look at the roster page on on their site and according to that: MCMG (currently unavailable), Mexican America (just got squashed)and I guess Immortal and Fortune count in some way (but they’re not in matches for the tag titles). Brutus Magnus isn’t listed so I guess The British Invasion isn’t around anymore. Ditto for Jesse Neal and Ink Inc. Anyway, Crimson/Morgan means they’re both in the ring less than they are usually. SPOILER: THEY’LL SPLIT UP AND FEUD SOON.
  • All the TNA women come out. Evil Karen Angle forces them all into a lingerie match. The crowd cheers at the thought of seeing titties despite the women being forced into it. The dehumanization of women on both WWE and TNA is something that does slightly disturb me about modern wrestling. To make things worse/better (depending on your perspective) the good girls (Tara, Miss Tessmacher and Velvet Sky) protested the decision and resented being made to do these types of matches and being referred to as ”strippers”…dressed like this:

  • Velvet Sky especially, considering she starts every match with the arse-jiggle. How can you relate or get behind anybody in this segment when none of them are act or talk a reasonable human being would?
  • Velvet Sky then comes out wearing a shirt that says ”NAUGHTY NOT NICE.”

  • See what I mean? How can she act (badly) at being told she dresses like a stripper or act that she is annoyed at being told she’s in a lingerie ball match when she wears that? Logically (HA) she should have come out wearing proper wrestling gear or something. Maybe that bag Sable wore on raw once.
  • Velvet Sky removes her shirt to reveal a dress that covers her more than the outfit she was wearing earlier. WHAT THE FUCK.
  • Oh Karen also notices that Velvet Sky has more clothes on than usual, so she picks the outfits for next week. She shrieks a lot and flaps her wings. I have no idea if Velvet intentionally wore an arousing outfit that covered her more was a deliberate ploy or not, as the quality of everybody’s acting coupled with the commentators explaining what was going on by laughing at the big boobies made it impossible to guess. So Karen promises skimpier outfits next week. Yay titties.
  • Am I supposed to know or care about Rudy Charles?
  • RVD kicked Daniels in the mouth and bust him open. Amazing that RVD still hasn’t toned his kicks down after all these years and injuries.

I’m convinced Jeff Jarrett is the best thing about TNA, as it doesn’t matter what crap angle or speech he’s been given he somehow manages to turn chicken shit into chicken soup. The lines he was given to say about Jeff Hardy were far from great bit I still enjoyed it.

Eric Young is finally entertaining. The Turkey Suit Match was horrible (are they building a feud between him and Robbie E? If so, WHY DID ERIC WIN AND EMBARRASS HIS RIVAL ON TV AS OPPOSED TO PPV) but it wasn’t for the want of trying by Young. Ditto for Robbie E, who I enjoy now that they’ve removed Cookie and replaced him with Robbie T.

Roode and Storm are so good right now. Storm is actually likable, which I thought was impossible for a TNA main event face and Roode joining the match mid-way after spending five minutes on commentary ”warming up”, only to join the match to pin someone and then immediately get eliminated via low-blow was superb.

The main event let a lot of the higher-uppers get their stuff in and look credible, like Christopher Daniels and Bully Ray.

So yeah. That’s TNA. This one was actually better than the last one I watched a month ago, and if they removed Karen Angle I’d like it even more.
