Listamania: Most Botched Matches of 2013

The first Listamania video and what better subject to tackle than the most botched matches of last year?

I decided to go with the term ‘Most Botched’ rather than ‘Worst’ as all opinions differ when it comes to that. I didn’t mind most of the fan-voted ‘worst’ matches but considered them more ‘dull’ or ‘ungripping’. Matches like Ryback vs. CM Punk or John Cena vs. The Rock II or Curtis Axel vs. Anybody aren’t bad in the sense that the wrestlers can’t wrestle or they don’t know what they’re doing, they’re just forgettable. And the good thing about forgettable matches? You forget about them.

In no real order apart from No. 1 which deserved it completely:

10. AJ & Big E. Langston vs. Natalya & The Great Khali (12th August Raw)
9. Matt Morgan & Rob Terry vs. Al Snow & Joey Ryan (TNA Joker’s Wild)
8. Eva Marie, JoJo & Natalya vs. Aksana, Alicia Fox & Rosa Mendes (7th October Raw)
7. Daniel Bryan vs. Wade Barrett (16th August SmackDown)
6. Adam Pearce vs. Magno (28th Match Impact)
5. Sin Cara vs. Alberto Del Rio (19th August Raw)
4. Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton (Hell In A Cell)
3. Randy Orton vs. Sheamus (8th April Raw)
2. Big Show vs. Ryback (18th November Raw)
1. Big Show vs. Randy Orton (Survivor Series)

There were a lot of ones that could have made the cut that didn’t, so don’t be surprised to see More Botched Matches 2013 like an old Coliseum Home Video release.

  • Lou

I actually cringed during Eva Marie’s debut, it was so fucking bad

    • jim

Definitely the worst I have ever seen!

      • Guest

        Jackie Gayda is not impressed

  • Mr_DJ

To be fair, Del Rio gave himself that concussion.

    • James West

      looked more like Hunicara

      • Mr_DJ

nah, Del Rio didn’t tuck his head like you’re supposed to for taking a power bomb.

  • Guest

eh, Eva Marie wasn’t absolutely horrible. Still time to get worse. Or slightly better. I can’t tell if the post-Mania crowd featured here are hilarious or just fucking idiots.

  • Hobo_Joe

The divas division right now is pathetic. Now that kaitlyn left all they’ve got is AJ and Natalya sorta kinda.

  • rocksault

That ref in the Sin Cara/Del Rio match is such a badass.

  • thom

Is this the only year you’ve put one of these together?

    • MaffewOfBotchamania

Yes. It’s such an obvious idea too.

      I’m dumb.

      • Hobo_Joe

hey acceptance is the first step on the road to recovery

  • MPT

We don’t complain; we point out absurdities. For instance, Bryan/Orton doesn’t belong on that list. Furthermore, how was the Al Snow segment a botch? WAY MORE than three people bought Survivor Series. It’s Total Divas VS AJ Lee, Tamina Snuka, Kaitlyn, Rosa, Summer Rae, Aksana & Alicia Fox to show that you botched, Maffew. We still care about the True Divas.

    • MaffewOfBotchamania

Bryan/Orton had a terrible ending sequence (as featured in the video), Al Snow’s match was an excuse to feature Taz Commentary, I’M AWARE MORE THAN THREE PEOPLE BOUGHT THE PPV (it was at least ten) and it’s nice you know the names of the Divas. Someone has to know, I guess.

      • MPT

Bryan/Orton had a nice ending sequence (betrayal and payback). It was way more than ten who bought the PPV.

        • Al Sko

You don’t really ‘get’ humour, do you my friend?

  • JRHT

Thought the choice of music during Bryan v Orton was pretty damn cool.

I still think that post-Wrestlemania crowd was awesome and credit where credit is due, I appreciate that Randy Orton used the crowd’s boredom to generate heat for himself.

    • dkinpa

Randy Boreton needs to learn the difference between “Heel Heat” and “Go Home Heat”.

  • Botch Cara

And after all these years, cheese souffle still remains tagged.

    • Lee

yeah i never got that – there is probably a reason from Botchamania 5 or something, but i never remember what the reason is. Probably the name of some Chikara* guy.

      * I kid, i love(d) that crazy group

  • Lee

An interesting idea, but an auspicious start.
Firstly, when did crowd chants = botching again? i never really got that, even though it is fun.
Also ”Charlie broke my finger” Sin Cara wasnt the same guy as ”I give concussions” Sin Cara. Should have picked up on that.

    • MaffewOfBotchamania

I’d say the crowd destroying the match counts as a botch. There’s chanting and then there was THAT.

And I know about the Sin Cara change, but I love kayfabe.

    • Al Sko

Hate to be one of ‘those internet guys’ but an auspicious start is actually a good thing. It means favourable.

I only know this because I got that wrong in the past myself, so no judgement here.

  • Jayson

I think after now watching it again, that on the first botch, black ref didn’t count the submission because Natalya was falling off of AJ before she even started tapping.. So technically he wasn’t wrong for not ending the match there. Though it did get really awkward quickly. The commentators burying him when it happened made it even worse though in my opinion.. They do such a shitty job of putting over talents and calling matches now that I actually have to mute my tv just to get through it sometimes and that’s really sad..

    • Al Sko

Couldn’t agree more, mate. I’m not sure what made Natalya break the hold early but she did. Maybe she THOUGHT she heard AJ tap?

What’s certain is it wasn’t the ref’s fault; he was put in a shitty situation and the commentators certainly didn’t help.

And where he is now? Sad. Just sad.

  • Chaz

Okay, seriously. How do you get past the first 5 articles on this website? Why can’t i browse through older videos? Am i the only one who sees this?
