Level 5 by Matt Furniss, Shaun Hollingworth (Chuck Rock, Mega Drive)

Train by Graeme Norgate (Goldeneye 007)

Cesaro vs. Enzo wouldn’t usually make the list but you need to have WWE footage or people get pissed, even though in terms of botches there was barely any catastrophes this year. The standard of wrestling is too high, dammit.

Thank fuck for Triplemania, making up three matches on this video. I picked Drunk Jarrett over Star for the top-spot as Torneo was indirectly responsible for ending the GFW/Impact merger, which is quite impressive for a bad match. Both were the absolute worst, not helped by Kevin Gill and Kevin Gill’s pal on commentary with no notes.

That CMLL match didn’t make it into Botchamania until now because I don’t watch lucha as I can’t tell the difference between bad lucha and good lucha. I see matches like the Leyendas Mexicana one and think it’s bad but then I’ll see a load of ***** reviews and CLASSIC REAL LUCHA comments and decide this isn’t for me.

The rest of the PCW match was fine, but that’s the greatest botch of 2017, I’m sorry. Was she going for a Van Terminator/Coast To Coast? Did she expect Saraya to walk towards her? The world may never know, but fell credit to Stallion on commentary for trying to bullshit a reason. ”Did she have hair in her eyes? Was she seeing double?”

The rest of the Xplosion match was fine too, after that horrible minute of awfulness. It blows my mind that this match was PRE-TAPED weeks in advance and that’s how they put it on TV.

Most Botched Finishes 2017

The List…

1. AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens (WWE Battleground 2017)

2. Battle Royal (WWE Smackdown 02/21/17)

3. Johnny Mundo vs. Texano Jr. vs. Hijo Del Fantasma (AAA Triplemania XXV)

4. Travis Banks vs. Mark Haskins (PWG BOLA Night 2)

5. Julian Nero vs. Da Mack (wXw World Tag Team League Night 1)

6. Carmella vs. CJ Lunde (WWE Smackdown 10/01/17)

7. Grado vs. Abyss (Impact Bound For Glory 2017)

8. Rachel Evers vs. Marti Belle (Mae Young Classic Episode 2)

9. Christi Jaynes & Shotzi Blackheart vs. Lucy Cole & Saraya Knight (PCW vs IPW The Confrontation)

10. CCK vs. The Origin: Banter Edition vs. Extra Talent-Less (PROGRESS Chapter 52)

Was going to include the Fox vs. Banks one from Raw but they immediately replayed the finish and pointed out it was messed up which made me think it wasn’t a real botch as only JBL gets to mock things when they go wrong.

Poor Nero, not only did that match die on it’s arse at one of the biggest wXw shows of the year but he ended up looking right at me as he was shrugging. I’m sure I was the last guy he wanted to see but well done for kick-starting Da Mack’s turn.

Rachel Evers vs. Marti Belle wasn’t bad but ”Belle was originally scheduled to win but then they saw her wrestle and changed their minds mid-match” deserves a mention.

I should point out the name of the team is Extra Talent-Ed and not Talent-Less because PROGRESS didn’t appreciate the pun. I didn’t appreciate seeing them wrestle so I guess we’re even.

If you disagree with the selection or have your own opinions, please keep them to your self. Or leave a comment, either/or.

List of Companies And Where To Find Them…

WWE Network is still there last time I checked

AAA put the whole Triplemania XXV up if you’re a sucker for pain

Likewise, CMLL put the whole LEYENDAS MEXICANAS show on YT

PROGRESS rarely have botches so when they do happen they’re special

GFW/TNA/Impact has an app

PWG show up when they want to on the HighSpotsNetwork

WCPW is now known as Defiant Wrestling

Southside Wrestling has a fine site you can look at and click on

PCW have a nice Pivotshare that works and everything

And here’s your Botchamania FB and Twitter

i still think that Rachael Ellering should have just stiffed the shit out of her opponent at that Wrestle Circus debacle…it’s the only way to save that mess

    • ViewtfulHero

Why not Maffew could use more material for a 2nd edition of shootamania. Even at the expense of Ellering endangering her career ala Sexy Star.

  • Wow, AAA really fucked up this year. That match w/ all of those old wrestlers…. oy…. there should be a retirement age.

    • Tim

      That was CMLL

      • OK, are they two different organizations? I get confused. Then again, I don’t watch a lot of lucha.

        • Tim

Yep. They are the two biggest Mexican promotions

          • And which one of them was stupid enough to make a deal with The Man Who is Fond of Slapping Nutz?

  • ViewtfulHero

I should point out the name of the team is Extra Talent-Ed and not Talent-Less because PROGRESS didn’t appreciate the pun. I didn’t appreciate seeing them wrestle so I guess we’re even.

Must’ve been really subpar for you to break out the non watered down snark like that.

  • Nick

But Number 3 wasn’t a botch. They clearly broke the table without any trouble. Unsubbed and reported to the FBI.

  • motorheadbanger

Gotta love the Boogie Nights clip… Made up for the old ass lucha-suar match. Holy shit was that awful… I’m not sure how it’s possible but the referee may have been the oldest person in the ring. Sweet baby Jesus…

  • Bryan

who was in the CMLL match with the women?

  • ColeYote

One of these years, we’re gonna have a Triplemania where they don’t have a worst match of the year candidate.
